Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) Clubs in communities
ASRH Clubs are safe, inclusive spaces created within communities often in schools, youth centers, or local gathering places where adolescents can learn about their sexual and reproductive health in an open, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment.
These clubs are usually led by trained peer educators, health workers, or mentors and are designed to foster dialogue, learning, and peer support. Topics covered include:
- Puberty and bodily changes
- Menstrual hygiene management
- Family planning and contraceptive use
- Prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV
- Gender equality and respectful relationships
- Preventing early pregnancy and child marriage

In many communities, taboos and myths around sexual health persist. Young people often lack access to accurate information or fear judgment when seeking help. ASRH Clubs break these barriers by:
- Providing accurate, age-appropriate education
- Promoting healthy behaviors and decision-making
- Reducing stigma around reproductive health
- Encouraging adolescents to seek services when needed
- Building leadership and advocacy skills among youth
The benefits of ASRH Clubs extend beyond individual participants and generally impact communities with;
- Reduced rates of teen pregnancy and early marriage
- Improved school attendance—especially for girls
- Greater gender equity and youth engagement
- Better health outcomes for the next generation
“Before joining the club, i was shy to talk about issues such as menstruation and I didn’t know who to talk to about my body changes. Now I help other girls understand they’re not alone.”
